What to Expect
You can expect a professional, discreet and inspiring space for you to safely explore the roadblocks in your life.
Everyone can use support at some point in their life. Therapy is a collaborative process of exploration and growth to help you create and reach your goals. Change can be difficult and beginning therapy can be daunting. Finding the right therapist to connect with is the most important step. I use a research validated behavioral approach in a relaxed, down to earth manner, to help you create lasting change in your life. Our work will focus on the “here and now” and helping you move forward through your struggles.
To make sure we are a good fit, I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss what your needs are.
Each individual's process is unique. I practice therapy from a behavioral approach which emphasizes being in the moment (mindfulness), exploring a variety of different factors affecting your struggle (holistic), and focusing on measurable goals which are based on your own values.
Specialties
I currently offer individual therapy for adults over age 18. We can expect to meet on a weekly basis for 50 minute sessions. Although individual treatment plans may vary, often short term treatment (15 sessions or less) can be very helpful. Our work together will be interactive, collaborative and goal oriented.
I welcome diversity and provide a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals from all backgrounds.
Anxiety , Depression & Mood Problems
Many people struggle with anxiety, and often the more we try to fight it the bigger a struggle it becomes. Whether you experience social anxiety, panic attacks, OCD or phobia - behavioral therapy can improve your life and reduce the struggle with these experiences. Working with anxiety is a specialty area of mine and I am happy to discuss how treatment can help you.
The experience of depression can look different for different people. If you feel sad, lethargic, or irritable much of the time, we can help you discover ways to make your life more meaningful and get you on the path to improved mental health.
Health Psychology
The connection between the mind and the body is very strong. Therapy can help you promote healing in both areas, and build up your resilience if you are struggling with new or chronic illness. I have worked in hospital settings and have specialized in Behavioral Medicine and HIV Mental Health. Whether your goal is improving compliance with your medical treatment, accepting a new diagnosis or losing weight, counseling may be the support you need.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is a scientifically validated therapy approach which has been proven effective for many mental health struggles. ACT is a type of therapy that focuses on the present, and helping you end the struggle against difficult emotions, thoughts, and experiences. By relating to your struggles in a different way, therapy can help you make room for a life that is much more meaningful to you. ACT is an acceptance and mindfulness based behavioral/cognitive approach which draws on concepts from eastern philosophical traditions. It is a non-hierarchical, active therapy experience. Read more about ACT here www.contextualscience.org.
I currently offer lectures, trainings and full day workshops for clinicians on ACT and behavioral therapy. Please contact me for fees and availability. References available upon request.
